6 Ways to Cultivate Inner Peace

Life is stressful. We often make the mistake of seeking peace and tranquility in activities or experiences, from intense yoga practices to romantic relationships, in an attempt to escape our inner unrest.

We think that by immersing ourselves in something, we will soothe the inner storms and find the peace we need…but that is impossible. Only by going inward and working with our shadows, we will find that peace.

Here are 6 ways to cultivate inner peace and balance:

1. Be Present

Take a few minutes every day to meditate, journal or simply stay with yourself. Notice the rhythm of your breath, feel your body and be aware of your thoughts. Simply enjoy the beauty of the present moment.

2. Practice Gratitude

Connect with your heart and find 3 things you are really grateful for. Grab your favorite journal or planner and write them down. Gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions to feel at peace with all that is.

3. Do Some Yoga

Our moments these days are filled with so much stimulations. We are constantly bombarded with ideas, images and social and financial pressure, which lead our attention in countless different directions at a time. This internal and external noise can cause extreme chaos within our mental and energetic system. Practicing Yoga can be a great way to reconnect with yourself and quiet that inner and outer noise.

4. Make Silence a Priority

When all teaching and learning is complete, there remains only silence. Every breath and every heartbeat becomes a miracle. Make time in your life to nurture quietness on a daily basis.

5. Practice Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is he perfect way to practice stillness. Through the practice of surrendering to silence you support the adrenals to function well. It helps you to release tension, let go and relax.

6. Find Inner Peace In Nature

When you feel disconnected, reconnect with nature. There is a lot of evidence that time spend in nature has a significant positive effect on mental and physical health. Go for a walk in a green place. Notice the plants and the animals. Pay attention to their color, sounds and texture. Find a tree in a quiet place and sit beneath it.
